What began as a night of celebration for one Southern California family ended in heartbreak after their beloved dog, Jameson, was fatally shot by Los Angeles police officers responding to a welfare check call.

The incident, which unfolded Saturday night in Canoga Park, has sparked outrage online, with the phrase "Justice for Jameson!" rapidly gaining traction across social media as animal lovers and community members demand answers.


According to authorities, officers were dispatched to a condo building on Jordan Avenue after receiving reports of a woman screaming inside the residence.

The Los Angeles Police Department said officers encountered Jameson, a 2-year-old golden retriever, Saint Bernard and poodle mix, after arriving at the scene. Police stated that the dog rushed toward officers, leading to the fatal shooting.

The moments that followed were captured on cellphone video and painted a devastating picture for those present. "Oh my god! Oh my God," a woman cried. "I cannot believe this is happening. I cannot believe this is happening."

Witnesses said the family had been celebrating the New York Knicks' NBA championship victory shortly before the shooting occurred. A photograph reportedly taken moments before the incident shows Jameson wearing a New York Knicks shirt as he joined the festivities.

"We were just so happy. We were just so happy. We were just celebrating the Knicks. We were f------ celebrating the Knicks," the woman screamed.

Meanwhile, the dog's owner's son told Eyewitness News off-camera that his mother had simply been celebrating the Knicks championship and that Jameson, while energetic, was not aggressive.
