Gaur Gopal Das drops wisdom bombs: why India leads the world, people matter more than places & even he's decoding Gen Z slangs

Gaur Gopal Das received the Transformational Thought Leader of the Year award at the India 2030 Leadership Conclave 2026, shared his vision of India becoming a global example by 2030, revealed he values favourite people over favourite places, and promised to take a Gen Z lingo crash course after admitting he had no idea what no cap or touch grass meant.
The India 2030 Leadership Conclave 2026 at ITC Maratha, Mumbai, honoured Gaur Gopal Das with the Transformational Thought Leader of the Year award, and his interaction at the event was exactly what you would expect from him. Considered, warm, and with just enough humour to keep things light.
When asked about his vision for India in 2030, Gaur Gopal Das drew a distinction that stuck. "I see that it's not just being this global power, but being a global example," he said. "And I think we are moving in that direction beautifully." It was a thoughtful reframe, shifting the conversation from dominance to inspiration, which is very much in keeping with how he tends to see the world.
On his favourite travel destination in India, he sidestepped the question entirely in the best possible way. "I don't have a favourite place. I have favourite people. And wherever those favourite people are is my favourite place." Short, genuine, and hard to argue with.
The Gen Z slang round was where things got entertaining. Asked about "no cap," Gaur Gopal Das was straightforward about it. "Gen Z slang, I'm not aware of." But rather than leaving it there, he turned it into something funnier. He told the Indiatimes team that he was going to take a crash course from them after the interview so that next time he is not caught off guard. A very interesting rather hilarious response.
When touch grass came up, he needed the explanation too. But once it was given, he immediately connected it to something familiar. "And not just remain in our delulu," he added, which got a laugh from everyone around. Turns out he knew at least one term all along.
At the India 2030 Leadership Conclave 2026, Gaur Gopal Das was thoughtful, funny, and completely himself. A fitting recipient of the Transformational Thought Leader of the Year award.
